Chris Kilgore, Termite Department Manager

What is your official title, and how would you describe your day-to-day role in simple terms?
My official title is Termite Department Manager. My day-to-day responsibilities vary based on the needs of the business. I oversee the termite department, support technicians in the field, assist with scheduling and operations, perform inspections and estimates, handle customer concerns, and ensure work is completed to company and regulatory standards. In simple terms, I’m responsible for keeping the department running smoothly and solving problems as they arise.

What drew you to this industry or specific line of work?
I came to Lane’s out of necessity after the company I was working for unexpectedly closed its doors, leaving me without a job. At the time, I was simply looking for work and never imagined it would turn into a career. Over the years, I’ve developed a genuine passion for the pest control industry and have found it to be both challenging and rewarding. What has made the biggest difference, though, is the people I work with and the culture at Lane’s. It’s an amazing company that has given me opportunities to grow professionally, and I’m grateful to be part of the team.

What is a project or achievement you’re proudest of since joining the team?
I’ve had many proud moments since joining the team, but the achievement I’m most proud of has been helping grow the termite department and improving how we operate. I’ve developed new policies and scheduling procedures that have made our services more efficient, improved technician productivity, reporting,  and helped ensure our customers receive the time and attention they deserve. It’s rewarding to see those improvements have a positive impact on both our team and our customers.

What are your primary areas of expertise or skills you love utilizing?
My primary area of expertise is termite management. I serve as a resource for our team when it comes to identifying termite infestations, developing treatment plans, and solving challenging termite-related issues. I’ve earned multiple certifications and make it a priority to continue my education so I can stay current with industry best practices, new products, and regulations. While my focus is the termite department, I also enjoy expanding my knowledge in other areas of pest management and operations so I can support our team wherever I’m needed. I believe there’s always something new to learn, and that mindset has helped me grow both professionally and personally at Lane’s Professional Pest Elimination.

What do you look forward to most when you start your workday?
I’m someone who enjoys routine. Starting the day with a plan, checking in with my team, and knowing what needs to be accomplished helps set the tone for the rest of the day. After that, I enjoy the challenge of handling whatever comes my way. Every day brings something different, and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about my job.

What is the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to control what you can control. You can’t prevent every challenge, but you can choose how you respond. That perspective has helped me stay focused and work through difficult situations.

What are we most likely to find you doing on a Saturday morning or over the weekend?
That really depends on the season and the weather. You’ll usually find me outdoors, traveling, or looking for my next adventure. I enjoy trying new things and experiencing places I’ve never been before. I believe life is too short to spend every weekend doing the same thing, so I’m always up for a new experience.

 Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have a dog. She’s my favorite companion and always keeps me on my toes.

What is a fun fact or “hidden talent” that most of your coworkers might not know about you?

A fun fact that most of my coworkers might not know is that I’m a pretty creative person. I’m currently learning the art of stained glass, which has been a fun and rewarding hobby. I also love to bake and enjoy making desserts for family and friends whenever I get the chance

What is your ultimate comfort food, or a local restaurant you swear by?

My ultimate comfort food is a classic homemade meal: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green peas. It’s hard to beat a good home-cooked dinner like that. While I enjoy trying new restaurants and foods, that’s the meal I always come back to when I want something comforting and familiar.
