What is your official title, and how would you describe your day-to-day role in simple terms?
I am a manager in the termite dept. My daily duties include a lot of problem solving, planning of jobs and training as well as maintaining equipment and chemical stock. I also answer customer questions, questions from our customer service representatives to assist in their dealings with customers. I keep track of chemical inventory and keys to properties and maintain vehicles. I keep abreast of new chemicals and equipment in our industry and company stockroom area. I administer company policies to employees and technicians to ensure adherence and i develop estimates for customers. This list is a brief version of expected duties of a lanes manager.
What drew you to this industry or specific line of work?
I exited the US army in 1990 with an honorable discharge and at that time i had moved to Charleston, SC. where i responded to a newspaper want ad for a pest control and termite tech and was hired at my interview by the company owner Steve Willard of Willard exterminating. I promptly thereafter got my pesticide applicators license and other certifications expanded on below.
What is a project or achievement you’re proudest of since joining the team?
I was given the title of lead tech in my first year and now going into my third year with lanes I was promoted to a dept. Manager position in the termite dept. Just recently in April of 2026.
What are your primary areas of expertise or skills you love utilizing?
I would say I’m well rounded in my 36 years of experience in areas from fumigation to pest control to termite control and others. I am a Clemson university certified master termite technician, master pest control technician, CL-100 SC official wood infestation report training certified, and I have held my license in 3 states in 7 out of 13 categories of pest control offered. I’m currently licensed in SC and nc. I’m also quality pro certified and green pro certified. But most of all, I lean on my termite experience the most on a daily basis.
What do you look forward to most when you start your workday?
I get to the office right around 7 am. I enjoy this quiet time with my coffee in my hand and in front of my computer the most. Before the real action starts at about 9 am.
What is the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
“If you plan to be on time, you will likely be late, but if you plan to be early, you will always be on time.” Another favorite i learned in the us army field artillery,” good fortune favors the prepared mind.”
What are we most likely to find you doing on a Saturday morning or over the weekend?
First, spending time with my wife and son, i really enjoy Saturday morning wake up and coffee time with my family. After that I’m out in the woods as I am a mountain biking enthusiast and have been since 1989. Biking out in nature is my alone time with God. I always say that if you can’t see the lord all around you in nature then you must have shut your eyes.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, we are a family of dog lovers, and my lil girl is a 2 year old spoiled little shih-tszu diva. Her name is Jojie pronounced like( joe-g). In fact my parents have 9 dogs currently so, suffice it to say,” we love our fur babies”. I have raised many puppies large and small, and I have loved them all dearly, they are family to us. I lost my previous 14-year-old lil shih tszu female “Chloe” aka “coco boogie” 2 years ago and I think that was one of the hardest blows I’ve ever dealt with in life. She was my heart, through thick and thin but now lil “Jojie” is quickly earning that spot in my heart as well.
What is a fun fact or “hidden talent” that most of your coworkers might not know about you?
I enjoy building gaming computers and have been doing that since 2000, so 26 years. I have been a video gaming
What is your ultimate comfort food, or a local restaurant you swear by?
Tacos (carne asada or barbacoa-in other words beef) and of course pizza, steak and potatoes, hot dogs and sausages of any kind, and last but not least cheeseburgers.
